About Gianfranco

Gianfranco is blind and uses assistive technologies such as his smartphone, smartwatch, laptop with screenreader and braille display for his everyday life. In his freetime, he likes to do sport such as hiking, jogging and strength training and he likes to read. Gianfranco works part time at the foundation “Access for all” as accessibility consultant. There, he tests websites and apps for their accessibility.

Challenge

Gianfranco would like to have a tripod-like device for smartphones, which allows him to scan documents in different formats (A4, CH-Id, …). The aim would be to position the camera in a way that all edges of the document are properly visible in the frame. To allow Gianfranco to take the device with him everywhere, it should be foldable.

Solution

Gianfranco wished for a solution to help him scan different kind of documents like letters, deposit slips, QR codes, credit cards etc. The team came up with a practical design to fix the smartphone on top of the device with three different frames beneath where the majority of documents can be fixed and scanned. The documents are always placed centered underneath the smartphone and therefore the height does not have to be adjusted. The device can be assembled and disassembled easily and can therefore also be taken along.
