Develop an actuator for Yariv’s Arm Brace
About Yariv
Yariv had a motorbike accident that left his left arm paralyzed. Since the accident, he has suffered from chronic pain. https://medium.com/@yarivadan/latest. This pain tends to decrease after exercise and therapy sessions, during which his arm is mobilized.
Challenge
Yariv already had a custom made carbon 2-piece brace for stabilizing the arm in the shoulder socket. The goal of this challenge was to actuate his existing arm brace, and turning it into a continuous passive motion exoskeleton allowing him to do passive flexions and extensions of the elbow to reduce the chronic pain. Check out the link below to learn more about Yariv and his challenge.
Solutions
The team has developed the mechanical attachments needed to connect commercial servo-motors to Yariv’s arm brace. The motors were controlled through a smartphone application.
