About William

Born in Geneva and of Italian origin, William worked as a painter. First in the building trade, then thanks to a training as a decorative and restoration painter in Belgium, he worked in the large Geneva construction companies. After 6-7 years of activity, the illness broke out and changed not only his professional life, but also all his sporting passions, his travels, his love of beautiful cars and his outings with his group of friends. He joined the residence of the Voirets of the Foyer-Handicap Foundation in 2014 and now works at the Label-fh Creation-Communication workshop within the Audiovisual sector. In his current professional activity, he ensures the digitization of film, video and vhs archives in particular. Today, the use of his computer is essential to the exercise of his profession.

Challenge

My ankylosis disease is gradually affecting my actions and reducing my ability to use my limbs. Today, my movements and strength are diminishing and even the use of a conventional forceps has become almost impossible. As a result, simple gestures have become painful, even impossible to perform alone, especially for opening and closing the hand. This translates, for example, into difficulty grasping and holding a cigarette without burning myself if I want to do it alone or grasping my mouse to control my work on my computer. These small everyday gestures, whether personal or professional, are important because they guarantee me the ability to do things again, and to decide for myself - quite simply, if I feel like going out for a cigarette or a coffee, alone on the terrace of the residence or in the workshop. I wish I didn't have to wait to find someone to accompany me.
