To have her own safe space when travelling

About Aliénor

Aliénor is seven years old. She suffers from a rare genetic disease that causes severe sleep disorders. She can wake up in the middle of the night for long hours or very early in the morning. She is a curious and exploratory little girl with a great eye for detail and loves to go rummaging through rooms looking for things that interest her. She can suddenly become very angry and it is difficult to contain her. She does not speak and it is difficult to assess her level of understanding. At home, we have secured her room so that she can't put herself in danger, to allow us to spend nights as peacefully as possible.

Challenge

We love to travel as a family. Aliénor has an older brother, an older sister and a younger brother and these trips are a special time. However, the nights away from home have become very complicated to manage. Aliénor gets easily upset in the middle of the night when she is in an unfamiliar place. She doesn't go back to sleep and we have to be prepared for a difficult day on holiday.

In order to continue to travel all together as a family, we thought of a travel tent that is light, small and convenient to carry, sturdy but easy to set up/dismantle, and secure, from which Aliénor could not get out. High enough, it would allow her to have her own little space where she would feel safe and could play during her sleepless moments. It should be airy for hot countries and opaque because Aliénor sleeps better in complete darkness. This is why we proposed this project to the Hackathon.

Solution

The team developed a dismountable tent tailored to Alienor's needs, fixed on a support structure and mounted independently. The tent is to be fixed in one block on the support structure, and also equipped with removable accessories, such as a removable mattress, a vibrating cushion, first name written in LED, and iPads. The tent is not heavy and easy to move around, and can be transported in a special case.

Team members are assembling the black support structure of the tent.
